Winter does the slower work. Heat escaping into a roof space melts snow on the upper slope, the water runs down to the cold overhang at the eave and refreezes, and the ridge of ice that forms holds meltwater back until it works its way under the covering. That is an ice dam, and it is the single most common cause of the winter ceiling stains people call us about. It is also why we treat eave protection and attic ventilation as part of a roof rather than as an upsell.
None of that is exotic knowledge. It is just what you learn by working on the same roofs, in the same weather, year after year, and by going back to look at what held up and what did not.
How we work
Look first, quote second
We get on the roof and tell you what we found before we put a number on it. A price given over the phone without seeing the roof is a guess, and guesses get revised upward once the work starts.
Repair when a repair will hold
A new roof is a big spend. If yours has years left and one flashing detail has failed, we will say so and fix the detail. Telling a homeowner their roof is fine has never cost us anything worth keeping.
Put the scope in writing
The quote names the materials, the scope, and what happens if we find bad decking once the old roof is off. Nothing about the job should be a surprise halfway through.
Leave the property clean
Tarps down before tear off, debris hauled out rather than left in the yard, and a magnet sweep for nails before we go. On the tight streets we work, that matters to the neighbors as much as to you.
